The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting commercial business, including new business, renewals, endorsements, and quotations. This role requires a strong commercial underwriting background and the ability to make sound underwriting decisions while maintaining profitability and compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
You will work closely with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient service delivery, retention of profitable business, and adherence to underwriting guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite commercial policies, including new business, renewals, and endorsements.
- Prepare and issue quotations in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
- Assess risks and make informed underwriting decisions.
- Ensure all policy documentation is accurately processed and issued.
- Negotiate renewal terms and prepare renewal documentation.
- Conduct renewal reviews and retention analyses.
- Monitor policy exposure and identify corrective actions where required.
- Request and manage survey requirements in line with company procedures.
- Support business retention and growth initiatives.
- Resolve client and broker queries effectively and within agreed service standards.
- Ensure compliance with internal underwriting standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain accurate electronic records and documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure excellent service delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes and operational efficiencies.
Job Experience and Skills Required
- Matric.
- NQF 5 qualification in Short-Term Insurance.
- Regulatory Examination (RE) certification.
- Commercial Lines Class of Business certification.
- DOFA compliant.
- Minimum of 5 years' commercial underwriting experience.
- Previous experience within an insurer or broker environment with underwriting authority.
- Strong understanding of commercial insurance products and underwriting principles.
- Cardinal 360 system experience will be advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
