Our client is an internationally recognised mining group delivering large-scale, high-complexity projects where financial precision is critical to success. Based in Johannesburg East, they are seeking a commercially astute Project Finance Manager to work closely with project teams, engineers, and operational leaders. This position is central to project execution, ensuring financial performance is monitored, costs are controlled, reporting is robust, and capital projects remain on track from inception through delivery.
This role calls for someone confident in interrogating figures, investigating variances, and turning financial data into practical insights that operational teams can act on.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cost management for projects
- Monitor financial performance and produce regular forecasts
- Compile cost reports, variance analysis, and capital expenditure reporting
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to enhance financial outcomes
- Strengthen financial controls and support audit requirements
- Improve reporting processes and efficiency
- Build and maintain dashboards and reporting insights
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and total cost of ownership
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within reporting and finance processes
Job Experience and Skills Required
- BCom Honours degree (minimum requirement)
- CIMA qualification advantageous
- At least 7 years’ experience in project finance or controlling
- Strong background in budgeting, costing, forecasting, and financial controls
- Proven experience working alongside engineering and project teams
- Familiarity with reporting tools such as Power BI, QlikView, or similar
- Exposure to project management systems
- SAP experience beneficial
- Strong analytical, reporting, and leadership skills
- Ability to translate operational information into actionable financial insights
