Job Summary
Our client is searching for a Plant Technical Manager (GCC Factories) to join their team in Rosslyn.
Job Purpose
- Lead the Technical team in ensuring efficient asset lifecycle management i.e. purchasing correct equipment, operating as per standards, maintenance, repair, replacement, problem solving to achieve safety, quality, asset availability and reliability goals.
Key Responsibilities
Health and Safety
- Ensure employee safety is number one priority throughout the plant with zero onsite fatality rate and achieving Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) targets
- Ensure compliance to legal and statutory requirements (GMR 2.1)
- Plant, Equipment and employee safety
- Practice and work according to safety standards and regulations
- Drive behavioural based safety
- Drive risk identification and mitigation
Operational performance
- Drive team to provide hands-on technical expertise, continuous improvement, improvement projects,\ maintenance, support on conversions
- Focus on reducing electrical and mechanical breakdowns, including plant services, and reduce overall unplanned downtime
- Conduct 5 WHYs, RCAs or other problem-solving techniques to ensure the problems are resolved at the source and do not reoccur, ensure actions are implemented and sustainable
- Support focused improvement (FI) foundation and drive actions from gap analysis
Overhead costs
- Manage maintenance budget/costs
- Drive initiatives to reduce maintenance and overtime costs
- Manage contractor and external service provider costs
Asset Management (AM)
- Manage assets throughout the asset lifecycle – procuring of equipment, installation, commissioning, operating, maintaining, repairing, replacing, disposal
- Drive AM KPIs - Unplanned downtime, MTTR, MTBF, asset availability, schedule attainment, backlog count, AM maturity score
- Oversee the Identification and mitigation of risks around assets – safety risk, business interruption, reduced performance
Operational Excellence
- Lead the identification of risks to improve performance.
- Monitor team performance and progress against plan, taking corrective action where necessary.
- Provide feedback to team members and coach where necessary. Ensure unacceptable performance is dealt with effectively and timeously and that good performance is recognised.
- Set up formal team structures for problem solving
- Ensure application of visual management practices for effective team updates
- Apply Leading and Managing Change (LMC) process to ensure stakeholders buy-in for necessary improvements
- Drive and encourage the team to apply the Foundation Practices, ensure adherence to standards and coach team in Foundation principles and practices.
- Encourage the team to keep up to date with relevant technologies and apply the best available technologies for the business
Capability Building
- Ensure the transfer of technical knowledge from subject matter experts in the team into the business and build capability.
- Coach the team in developing the skills to transfer their knowledge and work with the learning and development team in this regard.
Lead the team
- Lead and manage the Technical team
- Manage and quality assure team deliverables
- Review skill set of team, identify training needs with members and facilitate the necessary training
- Resource the team and recruit when required, manage individual performance of team members and apply all relevant Human Capital practices to ensure an engaged and focused team
- Drive Talent Management and succession planning
- Facilitate the skills transfer in the team to build capabilities within the team
Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality
- Participate in SHERQ and Food Safety programs, awareness campaigns and Induction program.
- Participate in the BBS Program
- Adhere to the site waste management program.
- Adhere to Food and Product Safety related plant protocols.
- Compliance to Quality Plan
- Provide support and participate in any environmental sustainability programs- Saving water, energy and gas
- Participate in any SHERQ and Food Safety audits (ISO 14001, 45001, 9001, FSSC 22000, BRC).
- Participate in SHER, Quality and Food Safety Health checks
- Take part in any incident investigation and assist in addressing any corrective and preventative actions.
- Participate in problem solving relating to internal and external customer complaint
Requirements
Qualifications
- Engineering Degree (preference: Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial)
- GCC
- Leadership development qualification advantageous
Job Related Experience Required (and time span)
- 8 - 10 years’ experience in the manufacturing environment
- Project Management experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience managing a team
- Asset management experience
- Budgeting and cost management experience
- Experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment within Production, or Technical Departments
- Experience in packaging advantageous
- Exposure to supply chain, quality, safety, risk management
