Are you an experienced Mechanical Draughtsman with a strong background in minerals-processing plant design, heavy fabrication and platework?

We’re recruiting a permanent team member for a specialist engineering and project house that designs and delivers mineral-processing plants and equipment for mining projects in South Africa and internationally.

This is a hands-on design role for someone who understands how heavy industrial equipment and processing plants actually come together – from initial engineering concepts through detailed design, fabrication and ultimately construction.

Working closely with Mechanical Engineers, Project Managers and the wider multidisciplinary project team, you’ll turn engineering concepts into accurate, practical 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings that can actually be manufactured and built.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for mineral-processing plants, equipment and associated mechanical components.
  

• Produce accurate fabrication, assembly and manufacturing drawings from engineering concepts and preliminary designs.
  

• Design and detail heavy fabrication, platework and structural steel associated with processing plants and equipment.
  

• Develop layouts and detailed drawings that consider equipment positioning, access, maintainability and practical constructability.
  

• Work closely with Mechanical Engineers and Project Managers throughout the design and project lifecycle.
  

• Coordinate designs with other engineering disciplines to ensure equipment and plant layouts integrate correctly.
  

• Participate in design reviews and incorporate engineering and project changes into drawings and models.
  

• Liaise with suppliers, fabricators and contractors to resolve manufacturing and constructability queries.
  

• Review and update drawings as projects progress through engineering, fabrication and construction.
  

• Ensure drawings comply with project requirements, internal draughting standards and applicable engineering practices.
  

• Maintain accurate drawing revisions and associated technical documentation.
  

• Provide draughting and technical design support across multiple mineral-processing projects.

Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Mechanical Draughting, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  

• Approximately 10+ years’ mechanical draughting/design experience, ideally within mining and mineral-processing plant environments.
  

• Strong practical experience designing and detailing heavy fabricated equipment, structural steel and platework.
  

• Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, including both 2D draughting and 3D modelling.
  

• Previous exposure to the design and layout of mineral-processing plants and/or heavy industrial equipment.
  

• Good understanding of fabrication methods, materials, manufacturing processes and practical constructability.
  

• Ability to take an engineering concept and develop it into detailed, accurate drawings suitable for fabrication and manufacture.
  

• Comfortable working closely with engineers, project managers, fabricators and other engineering disciplines.
  

• Strong drawing accuracy, attention to detail and revision control.
  

• Able to manage changing project.
  

• Clear background checks will be required.
