Our client is searching for a Process Engineer to join their team in Pretoria West
Role Purpose
The Process Engineer's fundamental drive is the continual improvement of efficiency, performance, competitive advantage, and utilisation of plant equipment, labour, knowledge, planning, inventory, production processes, and tasks. This is achieved by drawing on internal business knowledge, lean manufacturing principles, and the Operational Management System (OMS) to continually improve the value stream and its components.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee converting processes and maintain optimisation of the continuous manufacturing process
Develop, implement, and drive the Continuous Improvement Programme, focused on the 4M's: machines, materials, methods, and manpower
Analyse and report on material and utility consumption
Develop and lead VIP cost improvements
Develop and set standards for consistent operations across all shifts; ensure performance is managed to achieve this through coaching and influencing
Develop and implement action plans with production teams to address any deviation from standard as identified through OMS
Co-ordinate the quality improvement programme with shift production teams, SHERQ, and other internal and external technical resources
Plan, co-ordinate, and execute machine tests and trials with shift production teams and technical resources
Complete documentation to demonstrate compliance with internal and external regulations and protocols
Monitor equipment, including regular testing and ensuring maintenance tasks are carried out
Perform risk assessments of equipment and processes, including staff safety and environmental impact
Analyse and interpret process data to advise the Site Engineer and Operations Manager on operational and quality risks and improvement opportunities
Provide process know-how during project development, machine rebuilds, and new product development
Plan and oversee installation of new equipment
Minimum Requirements
B.Tech or National Diploma in Pulp and Paper Technology; or B.Tech / BSc or National Diploma in Industrial Engineering
Minimum 3 years' Process Engineering experience
Proficient in MS Office, including advanced Excel
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 6-Sigma, or similar methodologies
In-depth knowledge and experience of FMCG or converting plant environments
Strong analytical skills — analysis and interpretation of data into charts, diagrams, and reports
Sound understanding of SHERQ legislation and standards
Ability to develop and implement processes and procedures that simplify and enhance operations
Proficient problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Sound decision-making skills
High level of computer literacy and systems understanding
Project management capability — ability to manage people, budgets, and complex projects on time and on budget
Positive attitude; flexible and willing to develop skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills; self-starter
Working Conditions: Plant and office-based environment; ability to work at heights, in heat stress, dusty, and noisy conditions; may be required to work shifts and extended hours.
