Reporting To: Senior Technologist / Senior Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and technically strong Junior Civil Engineer to join our clients growing team in Pretoria. The successful candidate will support the planning, design, and implementation of water and sanitation infrastructure projects while developing their professional engineering career under the mentorship of experienced engineers.

This role offers exposure to feasibility studies, detailed design, site work, and professional development within a dynamic, project-driven environment.

Skills & Experience Require

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering (as recognised by the Engineering Council of South Africa).

• Two to three years’ post-graduate experience.

• Design experience in Water Supply Systems, including pipelines, reservoirs, and pumping stations.

• Design experience in Sanitation Systems, particularly sewer networks.

• Hydraulic design experience, including pipe sizing, pump selection, and flow analysis.

• Experience with site investigations and surveys, including interpretation of topographical and geotechnical reports.

• Hydraulic modelling experience using software such as EPANET.

• Strong report writing and data analysis skills, including feasibility studies.

• Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.

• Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a dynamic team.

• Demonstrated development of leadership potential.

• Strong administrative and organisational skills.

• Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.

Advantageous Skills & Experience

• Design experience in wastewater collection systems.

• Hydraulic modelling using HEC-RAS, WaterCAD, or SewerGEMS, including first-principles design.

• Understanding of municipal and national water regulations.

• Knowledge or experience in Public–Private Partnerships (PPP).

• Strong technical and professional writing skills.

• A clear willingness to learn and progress toward professional registration.

Special Requirement

• Willingness and ability to travel locally and within Africa as required.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical & Project Work

• Conduct research and prepare technical papers for publication or presentation at industry-related conferences.

• Compile and evaluate technical and financial data, including cost estimates and budget quotations for civil engineering proposals.

• Under supervision, carry out feasibility studies, preliminary design, and detailed design for water, sanitation, water resources, and planning projects.

• Prepare tender documentation, including detailed specifications, general conditions of contract, and schedules of quantities.

• Produce, review, and supervise the preparation of technical drawings, designs, reports, and documentation.

Site & Construction Support

• Monitor and implement site construction work on a part-time or full-time basis as required.

• Carry out site inspections and construction monitoring in accordance with the company’s Quality Management System.

• Assist with or direct construction monitoring activities as instructed.

Reporting & Coordination

• Liaise regularly with the relevant Project Leader on assigned projects.

• Provide regular progress reports to the Senior Technologist or Senior Engineer.

• Attend meetings and prepare clear, accurate meeting notes and reports.

Professional Development & Compliance

• Register as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA (if not already registered).

• Enrol in and actively participate in the company’s Blueprint Programme to support progression toward Professional Engineer registration.

• Complete and submit monthly Blueprint reports in line with the annual calendar.

• Ensure all work complies with the company’s Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015), Business Management System, and Project Management Online Guide.

• Maintain continuous professional development through on-the-job training, in-house courses, seminars, or external specialist training.

• Participate in professional organisations for industry recognition, networking, and marketing purposes.

Business Support

• Assist the Senior Engineer with marketing and business development initiatives as required.

• Achievement of objectives will be measured and reviewed during the annual performance appraisal.
