Maintenance Manager
Operations
Job Purpose
Develop and implement effective maintenance strategies that support uninterrupted production, reduce operational costs, and ensure the plant's machinery and infrastructure operate at peak efficiency. Take accountability for managing operational projects within the maintenance space, ensuring Infrastructure maintenance initiatives are carried out successfully within agreed timeframes, cost and scope. Foster a proactive maintenance culture, the Maintenance Manager will minimize breakdowns, extend asset lifespan, and align maintenance activities with overall business objectives to achieve production targets and maintain product quality standards. They will also manage ad hoc maintenance requests, ensuring issues are addressed within agreed SLA's.
Key Accountabilities and Outputs
Maintenance Strategy and Planning
- Develop and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for all plant equipment.
- Manage operational projects within the maintenance space ensuring Infrastructure maintenance initiatives are carried out successfully within agreed timeframes, cost and scope.
Maintenance Management
- Manage all maintenance and related activities to ensure optimal levels of plant and equipment availability
- Ensure all equipment and safety standards are maintained
- Manage ad hoc maintenance requests, ensuring issues are addressed within agreed SLA's
- Effectively manage relationships with contractors and suppliers
- Provide expert advice and help efficiently resolve maintenance queries
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as downtime, repair times, and maintenance costs; provide regular reports to senior management.
- Provide accurate reporting that inform strategic decisions and demonstrate ROI on maintenance initiatives.
Team Leadership and Development
- Manage a team of maintenance technicians, electricians, and mechanics, including recruitment, training, performance management, and succession planning.
- Build a skilled, motivated team with low turnover and high competency levels, evidenced by completed training programs and improved team productivity metrics.
General Operational and Financial Management
- Actively participate in operational planning and budgeting processes
- Prepare and control the maintenance budget, including spare parts inventory, contractor services, and capital expenditure for equipment upgrades.
- Ensure adherence to operational and financial frameworks of practices, processes, standards and controls
- Control cost and take the necessary action to mitigate any financial risks or non-compliance
- Drive continuous improvement through streamlining and optimising relevant operational practices, processes and systems
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures, implement lean manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen), and collaborate with production teams on process optimizations.
- Reduce mean time between failures (MTBF) and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) scores through data-driven improvements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelors Degree (3-4 years) / NQF level 7 B-Science: Engineering (Essential)
- A Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) Factories in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering FMCG bottling experience with a min of 3-4 years leading maintenance teams (bottling preferred)
- Lean manufacturing experience (preferred)
