Job Summary
A Mining company in Gauteng is seeking for a suitable candidate who can fill the position of Engineering Manager.
The Engineering Manager is a technically proficient MHSA 2.13.1 appointee responsible for overall engineering and asset management at the mine, spanning both processing and mining interfaces.
The incumbent will be a hands-on leader who oversees plant commissioning, maintenance, and optimisation, while ensuring infrastructure supports safe, reliable production. The role demands close integration with mining and processing teams to drive strategic planning, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement. The Engineering Manager also ensures strict compliance with safety and legal standards, while mentoring the engineering team to develop technical capability, resilience, and strong cross-functional collaboration — all aimed at meeting production and cost objectives.
Minimum qualifications:
- An Engineer with Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- OR equivalent recognised qualification:
- BEng Tech in Mechanical Eng (NQF 7), or
- BTech in Mechanical Engineering (NQF 7), or
- Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (NQF 7)
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) – Mines
- Legal Appointment in terms of MHSA Section 2.13.1, with demonstrated experience in fulfilling statutory experience

- Minimum 10 years post-qualification engineering experience in hard rock, open-pit mining environments, preferably with shallow ore bodies and variable ore characteristics affecting plant performance
- Proven leadership of engineering teams designing, implementing, and maintaining systems managing material flow through crushing, grinding, and flotation processes
- Expertise in strategic planning and proactive maintenance programs tailored to ore variability and equipment wear, maximising plant availability and minimising downtime
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across mining, processing, and operational teams to optimise ore movement, stockpile management, and blending strategies, maintaining process stability and product quality
- Strong knowledge of core plant equipment including primary crushers, high-pressure grinding rolls, flotation cells, and magnetic separators, ensuring operational reliability and performance
- In-depth understanding of MHSA regulations and risk management, with a track record of embedding a safety-first culture and ensuring compliance
- Experience managing engineering resources and budgets to meet production and quality targets with a focus on continuous improvement and cost control
- Proven leader in building, mentoring, and developing high-performing engineering teams, addressing skill gaps and driving capability development
- Effective collaborator with mining, processing, supply chain, and HSE to ensure integrated operations and consistent production delivery
- Exposure to fluorspar or related commodities (iron ore, manganese, chrome, base metals) advantageous for applying best practices
