Job Summary
Nature of Business: The company hires specialised transport equipment — including crane trucks, rollback trucks and lowbed/step‑deck trailers — for heavy hauling and abnormal load services across South Africa.
Working Hours: Monday to Saturday (06:00 – 17:00) - with one (1) Saturday off per month
The Workshop Manager will oversee daily maintenance, repair, and servicing of vehicles and equipment, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality standards while demonstrating strong leadership, organizational skills, and technical expertise.
Technical Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of vehicle mechanics, including trucks, and specialized transport equipment.
Ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues and manage repair procedures.
Familiarity with transport industry standards, including safety regulations and environmental considerations.
Leadership and Team Management:
Strong management skills to lead a team of technicians, mechanics, and other workshop staff.
Project Management:
Experience managing maintenance schedules, ensuring that vehicles are serviced in a timely manner.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage budgets, and meet deadlines.
Coordination of all resources and materials needed for vehicle repairs and services.
Health & Safety Knowledge:
Knowledge of workplace safety regulations, especially in a transport or mechanical setting.
Ability to implement safety protocols to minimize risks to employees and the public.
Familiarity with OSHA standards and other relevant health and safety guidelines.
Skills, Qualifications & Attributes:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a workshop or hands-on technical role, with progressive responsibility in management.
Experience in managing teams or overseeing operations in a workshop environment.
Vocational training or certifications specific to the industry (e.g., mechanical engineering, automotive technology, etc.) (Red Seal Qualified Diesel Mechanic preferred).
Ability to make sound decisions based on available information, especially when under pressure.
Experience with fleet management software, inventory control systems, and repair tracking systems.
Proficiency in using basic Office Software (e.g., spreadsheets, email) for reporting and documentation.
The salary can be between R40k - R45k (Neg), but will be market related based on your qualifications, skills, and level of experience.
