Job Summary
Key responsibilities:
Wet services design
- Domestic hot and cold-water reticulation per SANS 10252-1, including hot water generation design and specification.
- Internal wastewater and condensate drainage per SANS 10252-2 and SANS 10400-P.
- Water supply storage and booster pump station design, including pump selection and pressure management.
- Soil and wastewater pump station design.
- Specification of packaged water and wastewater treatment plant requirements in coordination with process engineers.
- Conditional assessments of existing building services on retrofit and refurbishment engagements.
Fire engineering design
- Fire-water reticulation for hydrants and hose reels per SANS 10400-W.
- Sprinkler systems per SANS 10287 / BS EN 12845 / NFPA 13 as applicable.
- Fire pumps and pressure management; sizing and selection.
- Fire-water storage sizing and basis-of-design reporting.
- Fire safety strategies and fire signage in accordance with SANS 10400-T and related codes.
- Integration with detection / alarm (SANS 10139), smoke control, and means-of-escape design.
Sustainability integration
- Sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) — attenuation, storage, infiltration devices, softened conveyance.
- Rainwater and greywater harvesting design.
- Recycling and reuse of HVAC condensate, process water, and stormwater.
- Integration of groundwater (from borehole abstraction) into building-side reticulation.
Documentation across all six ECSA stages
- Stage 1–2: Inception, briefing, basis-of-design, options analysis.
- Stage 3–4: Developed and detailed design, drawings, specifications, BoQs, tender documentation, contractor evaluation.
- Stage 5–6: Construction administration, site inspection, commissioning, performance verification, close-out, O&M manuals.
Cross-disciplinary coordination
- Coordinate with architects, civil and structural engineers, mechanical engineers (HVAC), electrical engineers, process engineers (groundwater / treatment), and Company (implementation).
- Resolve interface issues; produce clear deliverables for adjacent disciplines.
Productisation & methodology
- Codify your design work into reusable templates and design tools.
- Contribute to Companies wet services and fire engineering design standards.
