Job Summary
Purpose of the Role
The Production Operator ensures the continuous, safe, and efficient
operation of production equipment or assigned production lines by
applying Operational Excellence (OPEN+) tools and standards. Contribute to
continuous improvement and loss elimination to achieve the company’s
performance objectives in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale
(SQDCM).
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environment
Apply and promote all PMI health, safety, environment, and quality
rules and procedures.
Identify, report, and act on unsafe conditions or near misses to
minimize risk.
Participate in safety initiatives such as QRP’s, BOS’s, Safety Triggers,
and Safety Maps.
Conserve resources through proper equipment shutdown and
startup practices.
Adhere to 5S standards and participate in water stewardship and
waste segregation at source.
Quality
Conduct regular quality checks and ensure products meet PMI
specifications and QA standards.
Record results accurately in the required systems (e.g., VSI, QBOS,
Batch Records).
Report deviations and take corrective actions following QA
procedures.
Support additional quality checks and inspections as required.
Production Operations
Operate and monitor production equipment to ensure efficient and
continuous operation.
Adjust settings and resolve minor technical or quality issues to
maintain performance.
Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis for basic process
or equipment problems.
Conduct product and brand changeovers and assist during form
exchange activities.
Document all production activities, cleaning, and maintenance in
accordance with procedures.
Record losses and performance data on SPA (MES/MIS) systems
and escalate as needed.
Continuous Improvement
Contribute to loss elimination and process improvement
using OPEN+ tools.
Participate in Initial Problem Solving (IPS), Defect Handling,
and Loss Gap Analysis (LGA) sessions.
Conduct cleaning, inspection, and lubrication (CIL) routines to
sustain equipment condition.
Input productivity and quality data for performance monitoring and
analysis
Materials and Cost Management
Receive and verify raw materials, semi-finished, and finished goods
for production batches.
Ensure proper handling and tracking of materials to minimize waste.
Record usage and yield data accurately as per site procedures.
Morale and Engagement

Participate in engagement and wellness activities that promote

Housekeeping
Maintain a clean and organized work area in line with 5S and Good
Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Execute scheduled cleaning and maintenance tasks to avoid
breakdowns and defects.
Manage waste responsibly in accordance with site procedures
Documentation and Compliance
Complete all required documentation accurately and on time (e.g.,
logbooks, tracking files, batch records).
Ensure compliance with PMI standards and audit requirements for
data integrity
Capability Building
Participate in ongoing training aligned with OPEN+ Phase
progression and the site training plan.
Support Daily Management System (DMS), Standard Work
Processes (SWP), and pillar assessments.
Maintain readiness for skill progression based on Step-Up Cards
(SUC) and qualification matrices.
Complete all mandatory compliance and technical training
assigned in the individual training matrix.
Who We’re Looking For
Education:
Matric / Grade 12 certificate (minimum).
Level 2 Technical Training Qualification (PMI Technical Training or
Equivalent Nated courses in Production/Engineering) – advantageous.
Forklift Driver’s License – required for forklift-related operator roles.
Experience:
2-3 years’ experience in a manufacturing, production, or industrial
environment preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Strong technical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to perform minor equipment adjustments and
troubleshooting.
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office, MES/MIS systems).
- Knowledge or exposure to Operational Excellence
(OPEN+) principles.
- High commitment to safety, quality, and compliance.
- Team-oriented, responsible, and improvement-focused.
- Physically fit and able to work in a shift-based production
environment
