Job Summary
The specialist will support the reliable collection and use of information from assets such as pumps, reservoirs, treatment works, pressure-reducing valves, flow meters, level sensors and water-quality instruments. Typical water-utility SCADA responsibilities include maintaining PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, telemetry systems, instruments and communication networks.
Key responsibilities
Assess existing SCADA, telemetry and instrumentation systems.
Review PLC, RTU, HMI and historian configurations.
Assess data collection from pumps, reservoirs, tanks, treatment plants and networks.
Review flow, pressure, level and water-quality instrumentation.
Identify data gaps, communication failures and unreliable signals.
Assess telemetry communication methods, including radio, cellular and IP networks.
Review alarm management, event logs, trends and operator displays.
Support the integration of SCADA and telemetry data with GIS, reporting and analytics platforms.
Review the quality, consistency and availability of operational data.
Identify opportunities for remote monitoring and improved operational visibility.
Support fault-finding, testing, commissioning and system documentation.
Review system backups, user access and basic operational-technology security controls.
Prepare technical reports, system assessments and improvement recommendations.
Develop or review functional requirements and technical specifications.
Support pilot implementation and implementation-roadmap development.
