Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Principal Piping Designer to provide technical leadership on a large-scale mining project. This is a fixed-term contract opportunity based in Johannesburg, with occasional site travel fully covered by the company.
Contract Type: Fixed-term contract (2+ years)
Qualifications:
Essential: National Diploma, BTech, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Design, or a related field
Desirable: Training in risk management or quality
Requirements:
15+ years of relevant piping design experience
Mining project experience (mandatory)
EPCM experience (mandatory)
Proficiency in 3D design tools (e.g., E3D, PDMS, SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D)
Strong knowledge of piping layout, routing, isometric extraction, and clash detection
Experience on PGM concentrator, smelter, or underground mining projects (distinct advantage)
Responsibilities:
Lead piping design activities for mining projects
Prepare and review piping layouts, isometrics, and 3D models
Ensure adherence to engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications
Support standardization of piping drawings and document templates
Participate in constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews
Review and check work done by other designers
Coordinate with piping engineers and other disciplines to ensure project success
