Reliability Engineer – Expat Position

Industry: Mining / heavy industrial environment

Location: Sierra Leone

A well-established international mining operation in West Africa is seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer to support and enhance the performance of its process plant operations. This is a full-time expat role with site-based accommodation provided.

Role Purpose

The Reliability Engineer will lead and execute reliability and asset management initiatives for process plant equipment. The role focuses on improving equipment availability, reducing downtime, and optimising maintenance strategies through reliability-centred maintenance practices and data-driven analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) programmes
• Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for critical failures
• Analyse reliability data and monitor KPIs such as MTBF, MTTR, and availability
• Implement predictive maintenance techniques (vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography)
• Maintain accurate equipment records within the CMMS
• Support asset lifecycle management and equipment procurement from a reliability perspective
• Provide technical support to maintenance teams and drive best practices
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and cost reduction strategies
• Train, mentor, and develop maintenance personnel

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or similar
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in reliability engineering or maintenance within mining or heavy industry
• Strong knowledge of process plant equipment (crushers, conveyors, mills, pumps, thickeners, cyclones)
• Hands-on experience with RCM, RCA, FMEA, and condition monitoring
• Proficient in CMMS and data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI; Python/R advantageous)
• Experience with ISO 55000 Asset Management principles
• Strong leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills
