Job Summary
In order to be considered the following is required:
- Mine Planning Training (Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology or related qualification is advantageous)
- Proficiency in 3D mine design and modelling software
- Previous involvement in feasibility study design work
- Understanding of various mining methods (open pit, strip mining, narrow tabular, massive mining, bord and pillar), ground conditions and practical design constraints
- Strong technical reporting and communication skills
- Ability to deliver high-quality design outputs independently within tight timelines
Responsibilities:
- Develop mine layouts (access, production sections, ventilation and/or geotechnical considerations, materials handling, manpower requirements, fleet of equipment)
- Create a 3D mine design/model using industry software (Deswik, Surpac, MicroMine or equivalent)
- Integrate geological block models with mine design to optimise reserves and resource utilisation
- Test multiple design scenarios and provide comparative outputs for feasibility analysis
- Generate mine design drawings, sections, and figures for inclusion in technical reports
- Support scheduling and production estimates based on designs
- Work closely with the project teams to ensure designs align with safety, environmental and operational requirements
- Work closely with the operations teams to monitor actual production and develop ongoing short term and long term mine planning
