Location: Underground Mine – Tsibeng/Moeijelijk Communities, Ga-Wannankaye District, Limpopo Province (between Polokwane and Burgersfort)
Cost-to-company: R120 000 - R141 600 Per Annum.
We are seeking a reliable, hardworking and safety-conscious Diesel Mechanic Assistant to support qualified Diesel Mechanics with the maintenance, servicing, inspection, troubleshooting and repair of diesel-powered mining equipment and vehicles.
The role is suited to someone with practical mechanical experience, good knowledge of hand and power tools, and a willingness to learn and develop their technical skills in a demanding underground mining environment.
Assist Diesel Mechanics with servicing, maintenance and repairs of diesel-powered mining equipment and vehicles.
Assist with preventative maintenance inspections, servicing and breakdown repairs.
Assist with identifying, diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical faults.
Safely use hand and power tools.
Assist with removal, replacement and installation of mechanical components.
Assist with checking engines, transmissions, hydraulic, cooling, braking and other mechanical systems.
Assist with lubrication, oil changes, filter replacements and routine maintenance.
Prepare tools, parts and work areas for maintenance activities.
Maintain clean, organised and safe tools, equipment and work areas.
Report faults, damaged components, unsafe conditions and potential equipment failures.
Follow maintenance schedules, work instructions and procedures.
Assist with equipment inspections and testing following repairs.
Comply with mine safety rules, lock-out/tag-out procedures and PPE requirements.
Work closely with Diesel Mechanics, supervisors and maintenance personnel.
Perform other reasonable duties associated with the position.
Grade 12 / Matric – Required
Minimum 2 years' practical experience in a chrome plant or mining-related environment.
2–5 years' operational experience in a relevant mechanical/mining environment will be advantageous.
Minimum 2 years' experience using basic hand and power tools.
Practical understanding of basic mechanical maintenance and repair principles.
Exposure to diesel-powered equipment, mining machinery or heavy-duty vehicles will be advantageous.
Medically fit and able to obtain a mine-entry medical certificate.
Physically fit and comfortable working underground and in demanding conditions.
Able to obtain a clear criminal background check.
Good verbal and written English communication skills.
Reliable and able to follow instructions from qualified mechanics and supervisors.
Non-local candidates must be willing to relocate at their own expense.
Willing to work shifts, overtime, weekends and public holidays when required.
Must comply with all mine-specific safety, induction, medical and access requirements.

The ideal candidate will have practical exposure to diesel-powered mining equipment and mechanical maintenance, with previous experience in a chrome plant, underground mine or heavy industrial environment being highly advantageous.
The successful candidate should be dependable, safety-conscious, mechanically minded and willing to learn and develop towards becoming a competent Diesel Mechanic.
