Job Summary
Job Description:
To plan and optimise production processes to achieve world class levels of delivery performance and production efficiency.
Reporting to Supply Chain Manager.
Education and Experience:
- Matric/ Grade 12
- National Diploma / Degree: Production Planning / Operations / Production Management Experiential
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role within Production (preferably Automotive)
- Syspro use & understanding
- ERP / MRP training & courses
- Syspro experience preferred
Production planning:
- Plan, schedule and monitor production against the Master Production Schedule (MPS) for all levels of production through to component level (including stock levels, minimum requirements, planned change overs, etc.)
- Measure performance and adjust production plan to suite breakdowns, un-forecast sales etc.
Produce daily, weekly and monthly reports on adherence to production plan
- Support the development of capacity planning systems for all areas of the plant
- Schedule planned maintenance and major repairs affecting the production plan
- Schedule and monitor changeovers within the production plan (including change-over sequence, jig changes etc.)
- Monitor and plan backorders to satisfy customer requirements
- Convert sales forecast into production plan
- Create and monitor works orders driving the production plan
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure agreed minimum stock levels are maintained
- Plan and review minimum Work In Process (WIP) levels
- Publish critical reports such as Back-order ageing, Open orders without stock, progress on key special addition programmes, etc
Production control:
- Optimise the production plan for production efficiencies
- Review and adjust the production plan to support production productivity goals
- Balance production resources across key operations
- Monitor the achievement of daily production targets
- Analyse daily variances and identify opportunities for improvement
- Investigate production-related problems and recommend changes to address sub-standard performance
New product introduction:
- Schedule, monitor and report on Off Tool Sample (OTS) activities
- Schedule, monitor and report on Pre Production Trial (PPT) activities
- Ensure OTS & PPT activities support planned Manufacturing Production Trial (MPT) activities and other OEM production trials
- Provide critical production feedback during
Continuous improvement:
- Regularly table and participate in both projects and “Quick hit” kaizen-type improvements to maximise the contribution of Production Planning
- Stay abreast of the latest thinking in Production Planning to derive maximum benefit from Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and other related systems
Staff management:
- Ensure team members comply with company policies and procedures
- Ensure team members remain well informed of production priorities and focus areas
- Assist with salary queries, overtime sheets, sick leave etc
- Motivate team members using Recognition programmes & other tools
Department standards:
- Stand in for Production Planner: Components as required
- Maintain world class housekeeping standards using 5S principles in areas that Production Planning work in
- Adhere to all Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) requirements, especially Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Adhere to all Quality & IATF system requirements
