Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and technically skilled Senior Solar & Gas Installation Technician to join our client's team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, servicing and troubleshooting of solar energy systems, gas installations and related equipment.

This position requires a hands-on technical professional with strong practical knowledge, the ability to work independently, and experience overseeing installation projects while ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Solar System Installations

• Install solar panels, solar geysers and associated solar energy systems.

• Install and connect inverters, batteries, charge controllers and related equipment.

• Conduct site assessments and determine suitable installation requirements.

• Perform electrical connections and system configurations where appropriately qualified.

• Test, commission and troubleshoot installed solar systems.

• Conduct maintenance, repairs and fault-finding on existing solar installations.

2. Gas Installations

• Install and maintain gas appliances, gas piping, regulators and associated equipment.

• Perform gas system inspections, testing and leak detection.

• Diagnose and resolve gas installation faults.

• Ensure all gas installations comply with applicable safety standards and regulations.

• Ensure gas work is performed within the scope of the technician's relevant certification.

3. General Technical & Maintenance Duties

• Conduct installations, servicing and repairs at residential and commercial properties.

• Identify technical problems and implement effective solutions.

• Maintain tools, equipment and company vehicles in good working condition.

• Ensure all installations meet quality, safety and operational requirements.

• Complete job cards, installation reports and relevant technical documentation.

4. Senior Technician & Team Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise installation teams where required.

• Allocate tasks and provide technical guidance to junior technicians and assistants.

• Monitor installation progress and ensure projects are completed within deadlines.

• Conduct quality checks on completed installations.

• Liaise professionally with clients and provide technical advice where necessary.

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum 2 years' practical experience in solar installations and related technical work.

• Proven experience installing solar panels, solar geysers and associated equipment.

• Experience with inverters, batteries and solar electrical systems.

• Practical experience in gas installations and maintenance.

• Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and installation specifications.

• Good understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.

• Valid driver's licence.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Advantageous Qualifications

• Relevant electrical, solar installation or technical qualification.

• Registered gas practitioner certification (where gas installation work is required).

• Electrical or solar photovoltaic installation training.

• Previous experience leading installation teams.

• Experience working on residential and commercial solar projects.
