A leading large-format retail display company is looking for a skilled and creative Point-of-Sale Merchant Design Engineer to join their growing team in Pinetown, Durban, KZN.

This role is ideal for a technically strong design professional with experience in POS display design, sheet metal manufacturing, and SolidWorks, who enjoys turning concepts into practical, production-ready retail display solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop innovative point-of-sale display units and retail stands
• Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks
• Design sheet metal parts, welded assemblies, machined components, and complete display systems
• Calculate dimensions, weight limitations, and material requirements
• Ensure designs are practical, durable, cost-effective, and production-friendly
• Select suitable materials including steel and aluminium based on functionality and manufacturing requirements
• Build and test POS prototypes and support product development processes
• Conduct quality and progress checks on the factory floor
• Identify operational or manufacturing challenges and redesign products where required
• Prepare technical drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and product specifications
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing, procurement, quality, sales, and production teams
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving production-related issues

Minimum Requirements

Experience

• Minimum 3+ years’ experience in a similar design engineering or POS display design role

Technical Skills

• Proficient in SolidWorks
• Strong understanding of:
  • Sheet metal design
  • Welding processes
  • Machining and fabrication
  • Manufacturing methodologies
