Job Summary
Our client in the electronic payment industry is looking for a Technical Support Engineer at their offices in the Centre of beautiful Stellenbosch.
Purpose of the role:
- A need exists for a technical support engineer that is dedicated to support the existing production and QA systems.
- This role will support the technical stability of all production systems, ensuring uptime and availability.
- Technical interaction with external parties to ensure quick resolution of technical issues, either internally or caused by external participants.
Required technical skills
Training in Information Technology, Computer Science or other relevant fields
- At least 5 years of professional, technical support experience.
- Amenable to a flexible work schedule, as the need arises.
- Skills and experience in maintaining Microsoft Server and SQL Server and Linux environments.
- Preferably certification on the following:
- MS Windows Servers (MCSE)
- Linux
- Competency using SQL to query databases
- Experience in maintaining cyber security in the abovementioned technical environments
Beneficial skills
- Good knowledge and understanding of OpenAPI
- Understand JSON
- Experience with Postman / SOAP UI
- Experience in TLS and certificates
- Understanding of OAuth authentication
- Understanding SQL
- 3 years’ experience in the payments / financial industry
- A relevant tertiary qualification

- Good communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
- Self-driven to achieve goals, both immediate or more long term.
- Work independently and effectively in a team
- Disciplined and self-managed
- Fluent in English. Afrikaans spoken but not a requirement.
Primary Responsibilities
The role of Technical Support Engineer is divided into the following areas of responsibility:
Production system monitoring and maintenance
(The technical system comprises of various systems, both production and QA environments.)
- Monitoring of the technical systems, at times after hours and over weekends.
- Generation and checking of daily, weekly and monthly reports.
- Performing regular maintenance tasks on the technical systems like checking logs, performing backups, restarting systems if required, escalating problems to development.
- Performing diagnostics by gathering information from application and system logs and by doing database queries.
Technical support query resolution
- 1st and 2nd line technical support for the company’s systems
- Information gathering, interpretation and communication of resolution.
Technical Security configuration and maintenance
- Configuring and monitoring all aspects of security on production servers (Linux, Windows and Cloud systems).
- Supporting and facilitating resolution to outsourced Security Operations Center findings
- Document procedures relating to day-to-day activities
- Keeping network diagrams up to date
Secondary Responsibilities
Development QA
- Performing tests of new products and features and when required.
Integrations
- Assisting external clients in aspects of the process of integration into the company’s systems as and when required.
