A well-established manufacturing operation is looking for an experienced Tool Setter to join their Pressings Department.
This role is critical in ensuring that production presses run efficiently, safely, and within strict quality standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, setting, and fine-tuning press tools while ensuring optimal machine performance and production output

Key Responsibilities
Tool Setting & Changeovers
Install and remove progression and stage tools on presses ranging from 10T – 200T
Ensure tools are aligned accurately to prevent damage and maintain part precision
Conduct efficient tool changeovers to minimise production downtime
Machine Calibration
Configure press parameters including shut height, stroke, and air pressures
Ensure machines operate according to tool specifications
Auxiliary Equipment Setup
Configure and synchronise de-coilers, straighteners, and feeders
Program and adjust servo feeders and encoders to match progression requirements
First-Off Approval
Perform sample runs and verify parts against technical drawings and specifications
Ensure production starts with approved quality output
Process Optimisation
Monitor press speeds and feeder timing
Adjust processes to maximise production while protecting tooling integrity
Maintenance
Perform basic tool maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs
Replace damaged punches or springs where required
Safety & Compliance
Ensure safety guards and light curtains are correctly positioned after each setup
Follow strict press safety protocols and lockout procedures
Minimum Requirements
3–5 years’ experience in a metal pressing or stamping environment
Strong knowledge of progression tooling and press operations
Ability to read technical drawings and specifications
Skilled in using precision measuring instruments (verniers, micrometers, height gauges)
Experience setting up feeders, de-coilers, and straighteners
Understanding of press tonnage limits and tooling mechanics
Experience working with high-speed or heavy-duty presses
Exposure to automated feeding systems and encoders
Trade Test in Toolmaking or Toolsetting
Valid Forklift and Overhead Crane licences
Strong mechanical and technical mindset
High level of precision and attention to detail
Ability to troubleshoot press and feeding issues
Safety-focused and disciplined in industrial environments
Able to work effectively in a production-driven manufacturing environment
