The Head Instructor provides academic leadership and operational oversight within a professional field guide training camp, ensuring the consistent delivery of accredited programmes aligned with relevant South African regulatory standards. This hands-on role combines field-based instruction, student assessment, mentorship of junior instructors, and overall camp coordination, maintaining high training standards, safety, and an engaging learning environment. Working in support of the Head Instructor, the Assistant Instructor focuses on practical field facilitation, assisting with academic delivery and assessments, and contributing to the smooth day-to-day operation of the training camp. This role suits an experienced field guide passionate about education, mentorship, and professional development, with the opportunity to grow into a senior instructional position while supporting structured, accredited training programmes. Head Instructors requirements Minimum Requirements Essential • Minimum of 10 years professional guiding experience within Southern Africa • Valid Professional Field and Trails Guide qualification and registration (FGASA-aligned) • Proven experience delivering training and assessments in a field-based environment • Experience working within high-end safari or conservation operations Technical & Professional Requirements • One or more of the following (or very close to attaining): NQF Level 4 Nature Guide (or higher, FGASA Professional Field and Trails Guide (or close to it, VPDA qualification, Current Advanced Rifle Handling certificate • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) • Sound knowledge of South African wildlife legislation, safety standards, and best practice Assistant Instructors requirements Minimum Requirements Essential • Minimum of 5 years professional guiding experience within Southern Africa • Valid FGASA-aligned Field Guide qualification (Trails Guide advantageous) • Demonstrated interest or experience in training, mentoring, or assessment support • Experience working within a high-end safari or conservation environment Technical & Professional Requirements • One or more of the following (or actively working towards): NQF Level 4 Nature Guide, FGASA Field Guide, VPDA qualification, Current Advanced Rifle Handling certificate (or willingness to obtain) • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) • Working knowledge of South African wildlife legislation, safety standards, and best practice Personal Attributes required for both Head & Assistant Instructors • Strong interpersonal skills with a passion for teaching and mentorship • Good communication and facilitation ability • High levels of professionalism, reliability, and integrity • Willingness to learn, grow, and take guidance from senior instructors • Passion for Conservation, education and the development of guides • Ability to lead by example and constantly uphold the company’s values Salaries – Dependent on experience and qualifications ➡️ PLEASE NOTE: Although we appreciate all applications received, we will only reply to those candidates who have the background and experience required.
