Role Overview

Our Insights Team turns enterprise data into reliable business decisions. We are looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to develop and support the data pipelines, warehouse structures, reports and dashboards used across the Group.

The role is centred on SQL Server and the established Microsoft BI stack. We are particularly interested in candidates who have built and maintained SSIS data integrations, SSAS models and SSRS reports in production environments. Cloud experience is welcome, but strong practical experience with these technologies is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes using SQL Server, T-SQL and SSIS.

• Build and improve data warehouse structures, dimensional models and star schemas.

• Develop stored procedures, functions and other SQL objects to support integration and reporting.

• Develop and maintain SSAS models, SSRS reports and business dashboards.

• Monitor scheduled data loads, investigate failures and resolve production issues.

• Improve query, ETL and reporting performance.

• Implement data validation, reconciliation, audit and exception-handling controls.

• Translate business requirements into reliable data and BI solutions.

• Conduct unit, integration and regression testing before release.

• Document data flows, models, technical solutions and support procedures.

• Apply data governance, security and relevant POPIA requirements.

Minimum Requirements

• A relevant three-year IT or related degree or diploma.

• At least five years’ hands-on experience developing data pipelines and BI solutions.

• Advanced SQL and T-SQL skills, with substantial Microsoft SQL Server experience.

• Strong practical experience with SSMS, SSIS and SSAS.

• Experience developing or supporting SSRS reports.

• Proven experience with ETL, dimensional modelling and data warehousing.

• Experience maintaining scheduled data loads and resolving production data issues.

• Hands-on dashboard development experience in Power BI, Tableau or Pyramid.

• Practical experience with data quality controls, reconciliation and testing.

• Ability to work with stakeholders and turn reporting needs into maintainable technical solutions.

Advantageous Experience

• SQL Server Agent, JAMS or Control-M job scheduling.

• Git version control and Kafka streaming.

• Retail, merchandise, customer, finance or payments data.

• Azure or other cloud data tools in addition to strong SQL Server and Microsoft BI experience.
