The Billing, Finance and Payment Architect is the owner of the Company Billing, Finance, and Payments segment architecture capability. The Billing, Finance, and Payments architect is responsible for the design, development, delivery, and ongoing maintenance of an enterprise Billing, Finance, and Payments architectures and related execution roadmaps, assuring its continued alignment to the overarching objectives of the Company business, IT and enterprise architecture requirements
Requirements
Strategy Execution & Capability Ownership
- Owner, custodian, and champion of the Company Billing capability ensuring cross-group alignment with other functional areas and business functions, as well as with enterprise architecture
- Expert in the Billing, Finance, and Payments segments
- Develops a baseline of the existing Billing, Finance, and Payments system portfolios, with the responsibility to manage the system lifecycle thereof in accordance with the specific roadmap
- Define, develop and align the medium-to-long term strategy and target architecture (Blueprint) for the enterprise Billing, Finance, and Payments capabilities, with all relevant business and IT stakeholders
- Definition of the Company Billing, Finance, and Payments architecture frameworks, reference models, standards, policies, and practices
- Provides ongoing review of Billing, Finance, and Payments environments, recommending improvements based on the latest trends, technologies, and business operating environment
- Investigates Billing, Finance, and Payments systems that might benefit the Company, providing insights into the development of business cases, whilst playing a lead role in the system evaluation and selection process for approved investments
- Drives the system evaluation, selection, and procurement process
- Consistently aligns enterprise stakeholders regarding cross-department and group-related Billing, Finance and Payments projects, dependencies, overlaps, and opportunities
- Provides enterprise-wide assurance over the integrity and appropriateness of Billing, Finance, and Payments solution designs, using Company standards
- Definition and review of Billing, Finance, and Payments -specific value realization goals for the related environments
- Represents the Billing, Finance, and Payments segments in architecture and design forum(s) as a key decision-making stakeholder
Delivery Planning, Design & Implementation
- Align Billing, Finance, and Payments activities and roadmaps across the different Company Group stakeholders
- Responsible for Billing, Finance, and Payments subject matter leadership, providing guidance to implementing projects and technical teams on standards-based best practice
- Work with the Project Managers and Business Analysts to develop a high-level project schedule, business requirements, and set of architecture work packages
- Advise all program stakeholders of dependencies and impacts related to Billing, Finance, and Payment initiatives, ensuring minimal duplication of systems and functionality, limiting deviation from business & IT strategies
- Lead in the design of Programme Conceptual, Logical Architecture(s), and roadmap(s), serving as an input into program and project solution designs. These should consider the following design aspects across the Company Group:
- Company Group Business (and Functional area) & IT strategy – Across SA, MAL, and VE
- Enterprise architecture strategy
- Enterprise Billing and Finance Model & Roadmap
- Enterprise Payments Model & Roadmap
- Digital trends and emerging technologies
- Existing Billing, Finance and Payment Initiatives & Overlaps
- Business & Technology Capabilities & Roadmap
- Integrated Architecture Domains & Roadmaps: Channel, Business Process, Integration, Data, Infrastructure, Security, Partner & 3rd Party Ecosystems
- Business, Functional, and Non-functional project requirements
- Regulatory, legal, and compliance implications i.e. consumer privacy laws, data retention policies, outsourced data, and specific industry guidelines
- Collaborate with IT DevOps to assure architectural solution standards and integrity of the endorsed Billing, Finance, and Payments design(s) are maintained throughout the system development (At project-related milestones) cycle
- Track Billing, Finance, and Payments value realization metrics against implementing projects
Governance & Risk Management
- Ensures Risk Management processes are in place to protect information and IT assets through appropriate standards and security policies (e.g. Legal, regulatory, and Tax considerations)
- Provides input in the development of policies, standards, and guidelines that direct the selection, development, implementation, and use of Information Technology as related to Billing, Finance, and Payments
- Provides assurance and governance over Billing, Finance, and Payments implementations at key time-based milestones, ensuring appropriate application of Company architecture standards and practices
- Governs and manages change to the Billing, Finance, and Payments architecture landscape, for both existing systems and new initiatives that impact the capabilities. Includes project and target architecture change, as well as management of Billing, Finance, and Payments architecture artifacts (i.e. knowledge management and appropriate application of tooling standards)
Architecture Management
- Leads a team of allocated specialist designers and solution architects, assuming responsibility for Billing, Finance, and Payments solution design
- Manages communication of Billing, Finance and Payments change through the appropriate committees and architecture boards
- Responsible for the achievement of established Billing, Finance, and Payments segment architecture KPIs related to the program or enterprise architecture authority
- Manages the Company Billing, Finance, and Payments architecture working group
- Manages the Billing, Finance, and Payments knowledge & architecture repository for all architecture artifacts
Research & Analysis
- Active in market trend research and benchmarking of competitive Media institutions, their Billing approaches, and technologies
- Active in market trend research and benchmarking of Payments approaches and technologies
- Active in the positioning of feasible Billing or Payments business and technology concepts to Company Group, contributing to business case development and architecture positioning proposals
- Research new Billing, Finance, and Payments technologies and suites to evolve the existing Company technology stack, providing recommendations to the enterprise target architectures as appropriate
Qualifications
- BSc Computer Science or BComm Information Systems / Informatics or a similarly relevant Information Technology degree from a recognized university
- Relevant Billing software certifications e.g. SingleView, Oracle, SAP, Recurly, SalesForce
- Architecture practice and modeling-related certifications e.g. TOGAF, Bredemeyer, Zachmann, UML, eTOM, SOA.
- Architecture tooling certifications & experience e.g. Sparx, Casewise, ARIS, iServer.
- Supporting technology or business domain certifications
Experience
- 8+ years experience as an architecture practitioner
- 5+ years experience in Billing and Payments-specific architecture and solution design
- 5+ years experience in leading/managing architecture and/or Billing and Payments implementation teams
- 3+ years experience in implementing large, mid-size, and small Billing and Payments solutions/projects
- Deep domain knowledge of Billing, Payments, and cloud systems/platforms & implementations, and hands-on experience working on related technologies with customers in those markets
- Experience with different Billing management systems such as Zuora, Oracle BRM, SAP Hybris, Recurly, SalesForce, or other
- Experience with different Payment related systems and ecosystems
- Detailed experience and successful track record in establishing Billing, Finance, and Payments capabilities, defining and driving the adoption of related architectures and capabilities e.g. Order Management, Account & Entitlement Management, Tax Management, Dunning, Metering & Rating, Discounting, Invoicing, Revenue Management, Fiscalisation, Invoice Management, Billing Lifecycle Management
- Knowledge and practical application of common Billing and Payments architectures, including integration into upstream and downstream core systems e.g. General Ledger, Partner & 3rd Party Payment Gateways, Pricing & Quoting systems, Customer-facing & back-office channels & systems
- Business process optimization skills related to Billing-specific processes and concepts, including legal and regulatory requirements for product and service-related billing models
- Strong understanding of software design and DevOps concepts
