Sybase Database Administrator (DBA 02 – IT Operations)

We are seeking a highly skilled Sybase Database Administrator to join our IT Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our Sybase environments across mission-critical systems. You will work closely with application teams, infrastructure engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable database services that support enterprise operations.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Operations

• Manage, maintain, and optimise Sybase ASE and Replication Server environments.
  
• Perform database installations, upgrades, patches, and migrations.
  
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement tuning strategies.
  
• Ensure high availability, disaster recovery readiness, and failover testing.
  

Support & Incident Management

• Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for Sybase-related incidents and service requests.
  
• Analyse and resolve database performance bottlenecks, replication issues, and connectivity failures.
  
• Participate in on-call rotations to support critical systems.
  

Security & Compliance

• Maintain database security, user administration, roles, and permissions.
  
• Ensure compliance with internal standards, audit requirements, and data governance policies.
  

Automation & Documentation

• Develop scripts for automation (SQL, shell scripting) to streamline operational tasks.
  
• Maintain accurate documentation, operational procedures, and architecture diagrams.
  

Requirements

Required Skills & Experience

• 3–5+ years experience as a Sybase DBA (ASE, Replication Server, IQ advantageous).
  
• Strong knowledge of Sybase architecture, performance tuning, and database optimisation.
  
• Solid experience managing high-availability and replication environments.
  
• Strong SQL scripting and familiarity with Linux/Unix environments.
  
• Experience in backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery, and monitoring tools.
  
• Ability to work under pressure in complex enterprise environments.
  

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with other DBMS technologies (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
  
• Knowledge of batch processing environments and financial/telecom systems.
  
• Understanding of automation tools and DevOps concepts.
