HOST / DUTY MANAGER – LUXURY 5 STAR HOTEL | BALLITO Kendrick Recruitment is seeking an experienced and professional Host / Duty Manager to deliver an exceptional guest experience at a luxury 5-star hotel in Ballito. This is a highly guest-facing, hands-on role ideal for a hospitality professional with a passion for service excellence, operational oversight, and team leadership. Salary: R11,000 per month (Live-out, Market Related) Benefits: Contributions to Medical Aid and Provident Fund ROLE OVERVIEW The Host / Duty Manager is responsible for leading service during shifts, supporting the team across departments, and ensuring every detail of the guest journey is seamlessly executed. This role requires presence, judgement, and attention to detail, with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and public holidays. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Guest Experience & Hosting • Take ownership of the in-house guest experience during shift • Welcome and engage with guests professionally and personally • Anticipate guest needs and respond proactively • Manage special requests, occasions, and guest preferences • Handle guest concerns and service recovery calmly and effectively • Maintain a strong, consistent hosting presence across all guest areas Operational Oversight • Oversee daily operations across Front Office, F&B, Housekeeping, and Spa during shift • Ensure smooth service flow during key periods (arrivals, meals, evenings) • Support and guide team members on the floor • Step in operationally where required to maintain service levels • Coordinate effectively with all departments Service Standards & Attention to Detail • Uphold hotel standards at all times • Monitor presentation of rooms, public areas, and dining spaces • Maintain correct ambiance across the property (lighting, music, cleanliness, set-up) • Conduct regular checks throughout the shift Team Support & Leadership • Lead by example through professionalism and attention to detail • Support and guide junior team members • Assist in training and developing staff on the floor • Ensure clear communication between departments during shift Administrative & Systems (Secondary Focus) • Assist with front office systems and POS where required • Support daily reporting and handovers • Complete end-of-day procedures and night audit when scheduled • Maintain accurate records of guest preferences and feedback Health; Safety & Compliance • Ensure safe, clean, and hygienic working practices • Adhere to company policies and operational procedures • Prioritize guest and staff safety KEY ATTRIBUTES • Naturally guest-focused with strong interpersonal skills • High attention to detail and situational awareness • Calm under pressure with good decision-making ability • Hands-on and willing to support across all departments • Professional, well-presented, and articulate • Strong sense of ownership and accountability EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS • Previous experience in a guest-facing hospitality role • Experience in a luxury or boutique hotel environment preferred • Basic understanding of hotel operations across departments • Familiarity with systems such as Opera Cloud and Micros advantageous
