Job Summary
Our Client in Woodmead, Gauteng, has a permanent role available for a Senior Manager Financial Controller (Africa). This role will report into the Director – Regional Accounting.

SKILLS:
- Very good command of English (Fluent level) - any additional language advantageous

- Ability to communicate in a professional way with financial institutions, distributors, and local staff
- Good all-round knowledge of local corporate and income taxes, local GAAP and US GAAP
- Experienced in ERP systems (preferably Oracle) both use and implementation, proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Access
EDUCATION:
- Matric qualification essential.
- Degree qualification
- Professional qualification, Chartered Accountant or Certified Practicing Accountant
- Big 4 experience (Deloitte’s, PWC, KPMG, Ernest and Young)
EXPERIENCE:
- At least 5 years of experience at managerial level within Finance / Accounting in an International / Multi-national company, preferably with a US parent.
Position Summary:
- Provides ‘on the ground’ regional financial leadership and management of the Client's African countries / entities located in South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, and Swaziland
- Works closely with the Senior Financial Analysts – Africa and EMEA GBS staff located in Krakow, Poland to ensure up-to-date and compliant accounting records for both US GAAP and local statutory purposes
- Monitors the Service Level Agreement / Service Partnership Agreement (SLA / SPA) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for the Client African entities are maintained to agree upon standards and takes appropriate corrective action when deviations take
- Provides oversight of tax affairs (direct and indirect), statutory accounting and fiscal issues and ensuring adherence to all local fiscal and corporate regulations in all Client African entities
- Works closely with the EMEA SOX team to ensure African entities comply to corporate finance policies, internal controls and required standard reports, including all SOX controls
- Works closely with the EMEA Ethics and Compliance (ECO) team to ensure African entities comply with all ethics and compliance policies
- Works closely with the EMEA FSP team to ensure financial systems for African entities are maintained and that all Helpdesk Tickets and Change Management Requests are monitored and implemented in a timely manner
- Assists the Client Finance and Operations Director assigned to African entities on ad hoc projects Job
Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the Client's African financial matters
- Works closely with the EMEA GBS staff to ensure up-to-date and compliant accounting records for both US GAAP and local statutory purposes and that African entities perform to expected Client standards
- Works closely with the Senior Financial Analysts – Africa and EMEA GBS staff to ensure that the finance and accounting records and systems for all Client's African countries are functioning effectively and correctly record the business and position of the company
- Monitors the Service Level Agreement / Service Partnership Agreement (SLA / SPA) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for Client's African entities are maintained to agree upon standards and takes appropriate corrective action when deviations take
- Liaise closely with EMEA Regional Finance (Controllership) Management on all country financial issues for all Client African countries
- Provides oversight of tax affairs (direct and indirect), statutory accounting and fiscal issues and ensuring adherence to all local fiscal and corporate regulations in all Client African entities
- Works closely with the EMEA SOX team to ensure African entities comply to corporate finance policies, internal controls and required standard reports, including all SOX controls
- Works closely with the EMEA Ethics and Compliance (ECO) team to ensure African entities comply with all ethics and compliance policies

- Ensure that US / EMEA / Corporate Reporting Deadlines are met for each market, for which they are responsible
- Works closely with the Senior Financial Analysts – Africa and EMEA GBS staff to ensure that for all Client African countries the Monthly Financial Statements, as per corporate policy are reported by the 4th workday each month
- Works closely with the Senior Financial Analysts – Africa and EMEA GBS staff to ensure that for all Client African there are timely and accurate responses to corporate / local requests for information
- Responsibilities over Accounting, Treasury, Tax and Fiscal, Procedures and Policies for all Client African countries
- Whether working with the Senior Financial Analysts – Africa and EMEA GBS staff or outside service providers ensures that all Financial Statements reports meet local statutory reporting requirements
- Assisting the EMEA SOX and EMEA ECO teams to ensure sound internal control procedures are identified, documented, and enforced
- Whether working with the Senior Financial Analysts – Africa and EMEA GBS staff or outside service providers ensures accurate and timely filing of company tax returns – corporate and income taxes, VAT, social security etc.
- Ensures distributor compliance with company requirements concerning VAT registrations and proof of citizenship
- Keeps tax planning opportunities under review
- Monitor’s distributor compliance with fiscal and legal requirements
- Ensures the African entities comply with all reporting requirements necessary
- Developing and maintaining good working relationships with all key business partners within Client African entities including establishing and managing relationships with internal and external audit
- Working with the Senior Financial Analysts – Africa and EMEA GBS staff and the EMEA SOX team to ensure that the Client African entities comply with Sarbanes and Oxley act requirements
- Providing support to all Client African entities sub-process owners, process owners and line management to achieve Sarbanes Oxley compliance
- As required, participate in reviews, assignments or projects which involve business change ensuring that Sarbanes Oxley relevant matters are fully considered as part of the project.
- Responsibilities relating to financial inventory control of Client African countries inventory
- Assist the EMEA Inventory and Cost of Sales team to ensure control over inventory
- Assist the EMEA Inventory and Cost of Sales team to ensure that all accounting obligations for African inventory is maintained
- Assist the EMEA Inventory and Cost of Sales team with inventory reserves and obsolete inventories
- Team Management and Development (Note this position has two direct reports, but has direct interaction with EMEA GBS staff in Krakow, Poland)
- Build strong, positive relationships with the staff (including those who don’t report to this position, but are located at the EMEA GBS in Krakow, Poland and have direct interaction with African entities)
- Monitor staff performance, identify, and resolve issues
- Manage experienced qualified, part qualified and clerical accounting staff
- Ensure that staff are clear on how their roles contribute to the strategic and local success of the business
- To conduct appraisals, training, recruitment, and disciplinary issues as they arise.
- To be able to play a clear role in these areas a strong relationship will need to be developed with the Finance staff and a good understanding of the strong and weak areas of everyone
- Leads development and identifies learning and development needs for the Finance staff
- Ensures that all administrative activities essential leading Finance staff are adhered to, including but not limited to records of:
timekeeping; overtime; attendance; training; disciplinary action etc. by auditing and monitoring of direct reports activities
- Administer company policies and maintain departmental conformance with company policies, practices, and regulations. Immediately inform upper management of any incidents or concerns of the employees and/or distributors
