Job Title: Machine Setter
Reports To: Production Supervisor / Shift Leader
Job Purpose:
To set up, adjust, and prepare production machines to ensure efficient operation, product quality, and minimal downtime while complying with safety and quality standards.
Minimum Qualifications: Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent. Technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (advantageous). Machine setting certification (where applicable).
Experience:
2-5 years' experience as a Machine Setter in a manufacturing environment. Experience with production machinery and equipment. Experience in troubleshooting machine faults. Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures.
Knowledge:
Machine setup and changeover procedures. Manufacturing and production processes. Health and safety regulations. Quality control standards. Basic mechanical and pneumatic systems. Production documentation and reporting.
Technical Skills:
Machine setup and calibration. Reading technical drawings and specifications. Mechanical troubleshooting. Measuring equipment usage (verniers, micrometers, gauges). Basic computer literacy. Ability to perform minor machine adjustments and repairs.

Key Responsibilities:
- Set up machines according to production specifications.
- Perform machine changeovers efficiently.
- Adjust machine settings to maintain product quality.
- Monitor machine performance during production.
- Troubleshoot and resolve machine-related issues.
- Conduct first-off quality inspections.
- Complete production and setup documentation.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning.
- Report equipment faults to maintenance personnel.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality procedures.
- Minimize downtime and production waste.
- Train operators on correct machine operation where required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift materials within company safety guidelines. Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Machine setup time. Production efficiency. Machine downtime. Product quality/rejection rate. Compliance with safety procedures. Preventive maintenance completion. Scrap and waste reduction. Production target achievement.
Working Conditions:
Manufacturing or factory environment. Exposure to machinery, noise, and moving equipment. Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE). Shift work may be required.
