Job Summary
Purpose of the Role
Responsible for ensuring that all Air and Utility Services and ancillary equipment run to their maximum efficiency and output. This includes total preventative maintenance, managing breakdowns of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment as well as the coordinating of external vendors for technical services. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.
Qualifications and Experience Required
BEng/BTech /Nat. Diploma Mech/ Elect/Electro Mechanical Engineering.
Health and Safety Management experience.
Extensive Utilities Technical knowledge.
Knowledge and experience in full function management of Chillers, HVAC, Water reticulation Systems is essential.
Understanding HVAC controls and instrumentation.
SOP, Qualification and Validation experience.
Supervisory leadership experience in control of a technical team.
Good technical fault-finding / problem solving skills.
Knowledge of Planned Maintenance in critical environments advantageous.
Policy drafting and finance management experience.
Ability to effectively manage capital projects and plant modifications
Responsible for the following functions within the Engineering Department: -
Operation, preventative and breakdown maintenance of Boreholes, Cooling Towers, Water Recovery Systems, AHU’s, Stability Chambers, Chillers and Air supporting the facility and site.
This includes statutory and legal inspections of these utilities.
Be able to execute repair work on faulty Electro- mechanical equipment.
Designing and execution of all Critical Systems Air/Other projects for the facility and site.
QMS compliance for all Utilities that form part of the Critical Systems Air/Other, e.g. self-inspections, deviations, change controls, SOP updates, etc.
To ensure that maintenance activities are carried out in a cGxP approved manner.
Collaborates in the planning of new utilities and equipment or their replacement or sale.
Prepare work authorization.
SOP preparation, revision and ensuring ongoing training to personnel.
Preparation and approval of change control, CAPA, deviation and risk assessment documents.
Design tools, equipment, machinery & safety and protective devices.
Familiar with recognized pharmaceutical systems supporting SAHPRA/FDA/PICs requirements such as DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ, Validation, Deviation Systems, Change Control and Quality improvement programs.
Capital expenditure budgeting and execution.
Engineering issues are dealt with in line with customer service philosophy

Customers are constantly updated as to the progress of their requests.
All queries are followed up and resolved in the shortest possible timeframe within policy framework

Upgrade, design parameters, philosophies, structural as required to enhance the functionality of equipment
Managing the maintenance of equipment, machinery, services, breakdown services and contractors.
Manage spares, equipment, installations, commissioning and disposal of all relevant assets according to company policy.
To manage and control all relevant deviations as agreed with the Facilities Manager.
Manage equipment calibrations in line with latest GMP and GEP.
Project Management of all related projects and completion according to customer specification, time, quality and budget constraints
Engineering feedback is communicated to relevant departments
Regular feedback sessions are held to ensure continual improvement
Trend analysis and predictive maintenance programs.
Review technical advancements.
Attend monthly safety meetings and take minutes recording all safety transgressions
Incidents/accidents are prevented by effective operating of equipment and by following health and safety procedures.
Introduce Health and Safety procedures in accordance with current legislation.
Performance issues are accurately identified and action is instituted.
Potential conflict is resolved according to IR procedures.
Staff performance is monitored against standards and regular feedback is provided
