Job Summary
About the Role
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team at our state-of-the-art abattoir facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of mechanical systems and equipment critical to meat processing and handling.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems including conveyors, chilling units, hydraulic systems, pneumatic tools, saws, and other abattoir-specific machinery.
Implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
Collaborate with production, QA, and health & safety teams to ensure machinery operates in compliance with hygiene, safety, and regulatory standards.
Design and modify mechanical components or equipment layouts to improve production efficiency and safety.
Respond rapidly to equipment breakdowns and ensure minimal disruption to operations.
Maintain accurate maintenance logs, technical documentation, and equipment history.
Oversee installation and commissioning of new equipment and coordinate with vendors as needed.
Ensure compliance with local and international food processing standards, health and safety laws, and environmental regulations.
Provide technical support and training to operational and maintenance staff.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
Minimum 3–5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a food processing plant or industrial environment; abattoir experience preferred.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems (hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, motors, gearboxes).
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
