CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
The main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to contribute to excellence in the
Faculty of Law through the facilitation of learning and teaching (primarily in the area of Labour
Law, but the ability to lecture modules in Specific Contracts and Corporate Law will be an
advantage); conducting research; and contributing to academic and community engagement.

Facilitating learning and teaching in areas of Mercantile Law, specifically in the modules
of Labour Law)
Conducting research
Involvement in respect of academic and community engagement activities
Contributing to the administrative functioning of the Department and Faculty, and
performing other such duties as assigned by the Department or Faculty.
CORE COMPETENCIES
A sound legal knowledge and its application in practice • Experience at facilitating
learning and teaching or other relevant experience • Ability to contribute to the creation of
knowledge by virtue of published research and by successfully supervising postgraduate
students • Involvement in relevant engagement activities or other scholarly outputs.
REQUIREMENTS
An LLM in a sub-discipline of Mercantile Law
Teaching experience at a tertiary level or related work experience (ideally at least two
years for lecturer position)
Demonstrated ability to produce research outputs, including accepted outputs in
accredited journals (ideally at least two accredited publications for lecturer position).
