Job Summary
Main purpose of the job:
- The Wits Health Consortium, through their iLEAD (innovation Laboratory Engineered Accelerated Diagnostics) program, is investigating innovative technologies that will improve patient care within the African region
- We are seeking a skilled research and development scientist to work with a team of pathologists, scientists, program managers, and biomedical engineers who manage a portfolio of new HIV/TB and COVID-19 healthcare technologies
- The candidate will evaluate these new solutions and provide recommendations for implementing into national testing programs
Location:
- Witwatersrand Medical School (7 York Road, Parktown) and the Spencer Lister Building (Braamfontein)
Key performance areas:
- Perform landscape reviews
- Develop evaluation protocols
- Conduct laboratory and clinical evaluations against reference technology
- Perform data analysis and compile results reports
- Write and present scientific reports and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals and abstract driven conferences
Required minimum education and training:
- BSc (Honours) in a scientific discipline
- MSc/PhD would be an advantage
Required minimum work experience:
- Minimum of 3 years working experience post qualification
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:
- Ability to problem solve
- Must be able to translate technical information to non-scientific team members
- Laboratory diagnostic experience focused on global health priority diseases and expertise in molecular and clinical pathology
- Experienced in coding and statistical programs such as Stata and R
- Experience in project management and translational science (putting science into action)
- Experience in Good Clinical Laboratory Practice
- Experience in presentation at scientific forums and good publication record
- Ability to travel to clinical evaluation sites
