Must have a degree in Microbiology / Biochemistry / Chemical Engineering / Chemistry
7 Years’ hands-on experience in managing the production of fermentation or biological products from bacterial or fungal origin, preferably in a sterile environment will be required
NEBOSH courses, including SAMTRAC, ISO 9001/14000/45000, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, HAZOP, HIRA, NOSA Health and Safety will be an advantage but not compulsory since training will be provided
Communications skills (both verbal and written) at leadership level in English are essential
SAP and SNP skills at intermediate level to manage production parameters in the system are important
Has previously been appointed as a 16.2 Appointee as per the OSH-Act or is willing to be appointed as a 16.2 Appointee
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Preparing the OPEX budget.
Ensuring Production Master Data is accurate and regularly optimized for each product
Identify cost reducing projects of inputs and creating efficiencies that reduce cost of outputs.
Tracking and managing site expenses to match budget plan and agreeing upfront any exceptions with relevant stakeholders.
Ensuring accurate planning and compliance in site procurement with material needs at acceptable levels.
Implementing maintenance schedules to have efficient use of equipment.
Reviewing and re-designing processes as needed to optimize outputs or to solve or prevent quality issues and manage the scale up of new products.
Performing daily, weekly and monthly management of planning tools to ensure planning is accurate and can be executed well.
Finalising production schedule with relevant forum on a weekly basis using both planning inputs, inventory expectations, DCR or any other inputs to optimize equipment but avoiding cost of expired stocks.
Performing inventory management and control of all on-site materials by arranging regular cycle counts and assuming accountability for inventory variances.
Ensuring planning and staging of production processes can meet the demand of customers on time and in full.
Ensuring all products are produced in compliance with regulatory approvals and that quality parameters meet or exceed expectations.
Managing and pro-actively reducing the quantity of expired or almost to be expired products in the biosolutions range.
Ensuring the quality laboratory is well resourced and appropriate measures are used to accurately access quality compliance.
Regularly self-audit quality processes and third party providers of critical components or inputs.
Liaising and building relationships with others in company and department as well as outside bodies, to support or represent company/department/work unit activities.
Applying the appropriate system and processes to measure and manage staff performance and to coach and develop a high performance workforce.
Resolving issues impacting on work performance.
Monitoring, reviewing and addressing performance and continuous capability development.
Executing Line Manager duties as it relates to HR processes in coordination with HR partners.
Updating basic knowledge of the OSH-Act and COID Act.
Interpreting MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) in order to identify risk and apply the appropriate mitigation measures associated with the storage, handling or disposal of chemicals or waste.
Staying knowledgeable about GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and ISO 9001 standards associated with a production / operations environment to promote a culture of quality excellence.
Maintaining exposure to incident/ accident investigations, hazard identification and risk assessment processes.
Ensuring, as a 16.2 Appointee, that the OSH-Act rules and regulations are in compliance to all legal requirements.
HSEQ reporting and management for the site.
Implementing and driving sustainability and continuous improvement projects.
Preparing and driving approval of resource and Capex budgets.
Managing the expansion and consolidation projects of sites, working with service providers and project teams.
Salary package is highly negotiable depending on experience gained.
