A Data Centre Technician is responsible for delivering quality & timely completion of activities (e.g.
installations, planned maintenance, access controls). They assist their colleagues (cross-team collaboration) and their Team Leader in ensuring installation standards; planned change/physical access activities and planned maintenance provide environmental stability.
Control and Management of physical access requests to secure areas.
Liaison between CRES and internal platform areas to facilitate electrical maintenance and Mechanical, Engineering and Environmental controls. Control and Management of Hardware Installations in Data Centers.
Liaison with internal platform areas and project teams to understand, review and deliver installation management activities to include:
Floor space Planning.
Rack Management.
Environmental considerations (Power / Cooling)
Liaison with vendor engineers and on site cabling support.
Adherence to change control
Key skills
Effective prioritization/time management
Sound knowledge of Data Centre Support Processes & Procedures; their input/outputs
Good relationship management of their day to day contacts
Team player
Good communication skills
Basic problem solving & innovation
Experience in project managing pieces of work.
Role covers management of physical installation and associated logical configuration including
resiliency and environmental considerations.
Any experience across the infrastructure platforms and how they link together would be an
advantage (Mainframe/UNIX/Windows/Storage/Networks).
Minimum requirements
IEB accredited National Senior Certificate
Certified Data Centre Professional(CDCP) certification
2 to 5 years’ experience working in a Data Centre
Knowledge of cabling connectivity requirements, copper and fibre
Knowledge of hardware break/fix activities, i.e. HDD, RAM, PCI cards etc.
Knowledge of hardware installations, i.e. Servers, Network devices etc
