Job Summary
Background:
Our client provides sustainable economic transformation by partnering with SMME’s and providing them with access to funding, markets and skills while providing corporate investors with a competent, professional and value adding BEE solution. Our client is looking for an Associate Credit Analyst to join their investment team.
Critical deliverable: Producing high quality credit research/analysis of unlisted and unrated businesses together with the preparation of loan submission packs to the Credit/Investment Committee. Thereafter implement the loan agreements and related security agreements.
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring that credit policies, criteria, procedures and documentation relating to credit are generated and adhered to
- Assessing the credit worthiness of empowerment enterprises specifically with a responsible lending mindset
- Prepare all documentation and analysis, including financial forecast models and Investment memorandums, to present to and facilitate decisions of the Credit/Investment Committee
- Determine and ensure that company operations meet conditions for the provisions, and special loan conditions for clients
- Prepare and conclude loan agreements and other ancillary documentation
- Monitor loan agreements compliance through time and if need be, liaise with the borrower to ensure that no clauses on the agreement is breached
- Monitoring credit exposure
- Liaising with other staff within the company making specific reference to the Credit Team on matters relating to existing and new loans and with other members of the team to assist with matters that indirectly affect the credit team and our clients borrowers
Functional Competencies/Ability to:
- Understand the lending or financing environment, with a specific focus on secured lending to small private businesses
- Ability to review a credit application, make an initial assessment on the validity of the funding opportunity and liaise with the client to obtain the necessary financial and non-financial information needed to complete a detailed due diligence
- Be able to deliver on several tasks, primarily tasks relating to the assessment and finalising of funding opportunities, in a timely and professional manner
- Be able to conduct detailed financial analysis on a funding opportunity, including performing financial statement and ratio analysis, building financial models in MS Excel and interpreting financial performance of clients
- Understand legal requirements in granting and declining credit applications
- Operate in a research environment where examining and sorting through financial data is critical to one’s success
- To make use of learnt methodologies to achieve desired outcomes i.e., must be methodical and have high attention to detail
- Be self-motivated, accountable and reliable and have the ability to handle criticism
- To be prepared to undertake a range of work rather than focusing on a small, clearly defined role
- Handle challenging questions in a professional and mature manner
- Present findings to teams of people, most importantly other credit team members, management and the Investment Committee
- Produce well written, detailed reports, containing quantitative and qualitative information
- Come up with logical, well thought out recommendations/solutions
- Proactively research new ideas that are relevant to strengthening our clients loan process as well as the execution of deals
- Operate independently and take ownership of tasks assigned, while at all times liaising with other team members and working with the team
- Engage with clients and other third parties in a professional manner, in person, virtually, telephonically or via email
Requirements:
- B Com, B. Bus. Science in Accounting, Finance, Maths, Quants, or any related orientated Degree, or Chartered Accountant CA(SA) or CFA
- Experience in quantitative/financial work
- Analysing businesses from a financially sustainable point of view
- Constructing scenarios or analysing information and come up with recommendations
- Knowledge of Quantitative techniques, research methods and methodologies
- Knowledge of market drivers
- Accounting and corporate tax concepts
- Companies Act
- Must have a minimum of 5 years industry experience in credit and risk. Preferably in Corporate Finance, Financial Services, Legal, SME Environment or a Development Finance Institution
- Must be able to work well within a team and be able to operate independently
- Must be able to deal with relevant client queries in an informed, professional and timely manner
- Must be able to assess companies across different industries, as well as their capacity to take on and repay debt, where the debt can be required for asset finance, growth finance, working capital or other business purposes
