If you are still applying for travel agent jobs, you can impress your potential employers with your knowledge of the region.
Another core responsibility that is associated with this career is booking travel arrangements for clients. This includes aeroplane tickets, accommodation and tours. Travel agent jobs are available with agencies and you can also find freelance work.
Within these types of tourism jobs, you may be required to work with individual clients or for corporate companies. They typically have access to discounted fares and accommodation which benefit their clients. As a travel agent you can choose to specialise in a variety of areas which include honeymoons, student travel and cruises.
To be successful in this career you will need to be passionate about travel as well as working with people. Sales skills and communication capabilities are also vital. To become a travel agent you can train for a certificate or a diploma.
One option is to complete a National Diploma in Tourism Management or a Bachelor of Arts specialising in tourism. You could also complete training at a private educational institute. Typically the minimum requirements to enter training are a grade 12 with geography as well as maths or accountancy.
