The need for Chartered Accountants:
Chartered Accountants contribute to the performance of a company and they are responsible for overseeing the company’s finances. Duties include recording an institute’s financial transactions and analysing the impact of these transactions. Charted accountants review the company’s income and expenditures to gather information that is useful for writing reports. These documents summarise the company’s finances and provide stakeholders with useful information. Another important role associated with this position is calculating taxes.
Chartered Accountants must obtain an Accounting degree and they are required to pass a board exam. This certification shows prospective employers that the candidate has the relevant experience to oversee their finances. Chartered Accountants are also required to complete an internship.
Graduates can join a firm or seek employment at large companies. They usually work in an office but they may be required to travel to different sites. This position often requires the employee to work overtime especially in the final weeks of the financial year.

According to SAICA South African matriculates are not achieving high enough results in Maths or Science to be suitable candidates for Accounting degrees. This has resulted in an insufficient number of graduates to fulfil the demand for Charted Accountants. Due to Chartered Accountants’ valuable contribution to the performance of companies, there is an increased need for trained professionals. Many qualified graduates seek employment oversees which has contributed to the shortage.
